Kensington Fire Rescue - Explorer Post:
What is it? Kensington Fire Rescue sponsors a fire service oriented Explorer – Learning for Life Program. The purpose of the program is to match the interests of young adults with the resources and adult expertise of the participating organization, particularly the Kensington Fire Department. Exploring – Learning for Life Programs help nurture career opportunities, leadership experience, life skills, and character education for young adults. The youth organization is a stepping stone for those who wish to become Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics, Fire Inspectors, or Firefighters. Regardless of the explorer’s career choice, however, the experience gained will better prepare them for the future. The program will teach leadership skills, teamwork, and good civic values. In addition, the post will create new friendships in a very diverse field. Once involved in the program, the participant will learn various aspects of the fire service that the Department provides to the Town. Some of these areas include: fire equipment, safety, fire suppression, emergency medical first-aid, CPR, rescue techniques, fire prevention, and community service projects. There may also be a level of active participation in the fire service available to participants within certain age requirements. Participants will also have the opportunity to become involved in the leadership structure within the program, and participate in various functions and outings. Other benefits of the program include scholarships, awards, and recognition. The program is available to young men and women who live in the area, have completed the eighth grade, and who are at least 14 years of age, but not yet 20 years of age.
